Henshin. The Journay of a Young Violinist
·

Henshin is a short documental from Granada that breaks with the forth wall.

The film was directed by Jorge Pastor and it explores the dreams of a young musician through the violinist Sara Yonehera and the oportunities provided by orchestras like Camerata Garnati.

Music is one of the most beautiful professions, but also one of the most challenging. Thousands of young people dream of making a living from their instruments and, even more, of playing in a major orchestra. This is the story told in Henshin, the latest short film by journalist and filmmaker Jorge Pastor. The documentary follows the dreams of Sara Yonehara, a Japanese-born violin student living in Granada, who is striving to find her place in the world of classical music. She gets the chance to showcase her talent through Camerata Garnati, a project led by professor and internationally acclaimed violinist Pablo Martos, whose main goal is precisely that: to give visibility to emerging musicians and help them enter the professional music scene.

The rest of the story will be revealed to those attending the pre-premiere of Henshin, which will take place at the Centro Federico García Lorca (Plaza de la Romanilla, s/n) on April 5 at 8:00 PM, with free admission until full capacity is reached. Henshin, which means metamorphosis in Japanese, has been made possible thanks to the main collaboration of Fundación Banco de Sabadell and the sponsorship of Wind Hunter, Perales Abogados, and Fundación Jacinto Rega, along with the support of Gastrohunter and Mayumana.

Henshin was filmed between September 23 and 26, 2024, on the streets of Granada and at Centro Lorca, which hosted a series of workshops by Mayumana that week, as well as a Camerata Garnati concert featuring Mayumana’s participation. The concert included the premiere of several pieces, such as Metamorfosis by Ángel López Carreño, performed with the mastery of Camerata Garnati, under the direction of Pablo Martos, and featuring several young musicians, including Sara Yonehara.

Jorge Pastor states that Henshin, produced by OE Oficina and distributed at festivals worldwide by Inout Distribution, is “essentially cinema.” “A short film with a clear educational component that portrays reality with the clarity of testimonies and the poetry of images,” says the filmmaker, who embarks on this new project following the success of La rebelión de Bernarda and Teníamos un plan. Pastor also highlights the outstanding work of Daniel Bayona and Pablo Martos, the technical and musical directors of Henshin.
