Jorge Vistel was born in Santiago, in Cuba, and heir to rich musical tradition. He masterfully blends the secrets of his homeland with avantguard jazz. The result is a contemporary, personal and authetntic style which has made a lasting impact in the international scene.
Following the release of Cimarrón under New York based label Inner Circle Music led by Georg Osby, he continued his musical evolution with Ossian. His most recent album Fiesta en el batey recorded with the Vistel Brothers explores new dimensions of modern Cuban jazz, fusing Afro Cuban rhythm with contemporary improvisation. Trained at Cuba’s National School of Art, Vistel has been influenced by iconic figures such as Steve Coleman, Wynton Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Steve Turre y Barry Harris.
Since 2005, while residing in Europe, he has shared the stage with jazz legends such as Roy Hargrove, Doug Hammond, David Murray, Benny Golson, Henry Cole, Lewis Nash, Dado Moroni,Benny Green, Marcus Printup, Stefano Bedetti, Gary Thomas, David Virelles y Roman Filiu. In 2014, sponsored by Quincy Jones, he toured with Alfredo Rodríguez & The Invasion Parade.
